Today marks 70 years since the founding of the North Atlantic Alliance. The military-political bloc unites most of the countries of Europe, the USA and Canada. One of the stated goals is to contain any form of aggression against the territory of any NATO member state. At the same time, as the Foundation for the Protection of National Values found out, the alliance makes every taxpayer in their countries spend thousands of dollars annually on waging wars around the world. At the same time, the total population of the NATO member countries is approximately 570 million inhabitants. That is how many people are forced to support the aggressive policy of the alliance.
The Foundation has compiled the TOP-15 states of the North Atlantic Alliance in per capita military spending. As it turned out, almost all NATO member countries have much more military spending than in Russia. At the same time, the politicians of the Western bloc and the journalists and bloggers are blaming high defense spending on our country.
For comparison: last year the Russian Federation spent $ 382 per capita on military needs. This is even less than Belgium, which is on the 11th place in the ranking. The numbers speak for themselves. Russia is much more peace-loving than many countries that loudly declare democratic values, but in fact engage in global wars, without taking into account the social needs of their people.
The rating is headed by the USA, which spent $ 2088 per capita in 2018, on a second place there is Norway with $ 1364, on the third – United Kingdom, which spent $ 933.
Not all countries of the alliance got into the top-15, but only those who spend the most on military needs.
In compiling the rankings data from the official website of NATO was used. The size of Russia’s defense expenditures was determined on the basis of data from the Jane’s Defense Budget report (derived by using counting methods similar to the approach used in NATO countries).
The North Atlantic Alliance was created in the era of the Cold War. We all remember who he was directed against. Nothing changed. The words that the bloc countries protect themselves from mythical external threats are nothing more than demagogy. In fact, NATO is pursuing an aggressive policy, spending huge amounts of taxpayer money on military operations in various countries that kill civilians. I am sure that many people in Europe and the USA are not thrilled by this militaristic policy, but no one asks them,” said Alexander Malkevich, President of the Foundation for the Protection of National Values, Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber for the Development of Media and Mass Communications.
